- The places we love and the environmental values so many of us share are too often threatened by powerful industries, short-sighted politicians and more.
- Defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy and spirited grassroots action.
- That's where you come in.
- Your support gives us the resources we need to stand up for our environment.
As we reflect on the past year, it is clear PFQAC continues to make a significant impact in Queen Anne’s County. As a volunteer, non-profit organization, we remain steadfast in our mission to reduce single-use plastics and protect our environment. Through advocacy, education, and community involvement, PFQAC continues to accomplish its mission, and we could not have achieved so much without your unwavering support and dedication.
Since October 2023, our accomplishments have been both inspiring and impactful:
- Award Recognition: We were honored to receive the prestigious QAC Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award for Environmental Stewardship in 2023. This accolade is a testament to our collective efforts and commitment to making a positive environmental impact.
- Boat Shrink Wrap Recycling: In collaboration with MTAM and QAC, PFQAC played a crucial role in saving 6 tons of boat shrink wrap from ending up in landfills. This represents a remarkable 370% increase from the previous year’s collection of 1.62 tons.
- Bag Ban Initiative: Following the successful rollout in January 2024 of the Centreville “Bring Your Own Bag” Bag Ban, our volunteers have been diligently collecting data to support a countywide bag ban. We look forward to upcoming meetings with local commissioners to share this data and seek sponsorship for broader legislation.
- Ongoing Efforts: Our monthly trash clean-ups, meetings with state and local legislators, and community education initiatives continue to drive our mission forward.
- New Team Members: We welcomed two outstanding individuals to our team. Ron Burr has revamped our website, adding a new learning page with advanced AI capabilities. Margaret Gates has joined us to lead our Communications Team, enhancing our outreach and engagement efforts.
This year’s Annual Appeal focuses on using funds to further our mission of educating, raising awareness, and clarifying the choices individuals and organizations can make to enhance our environment. Your support is crucial in PFQAC’s efforts to promote sustainable practices, keep our roadways and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay plastic- free, and inspire other jurisdictions in Maryland to follow.
Thank you for your commitment to our cause. Your generosity enables us to continue our vital work and make a lasting impact on our community and environment.
