Queen Anne’s County Achieves Significant Milestone in Reducing Plastic Waste in Marine Industry

Queen Anne’s County has achieved a remarkable success in its ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste generated by the marine industry. The county's recent initiative to recycle single-use boat shrinkwrap has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of plastic diverted from landfills. In the second year of the program, Queen Anne’s County Government, in partnership with Plastic Free QAC and the Marine Trades Association of Maryland (MTAM), has seen an impressive 370% increase in the amount of recycled shrinkwrap compared to last year. This year, a total of 12,000 pounds (6 tons) of plastic shrinkwrap was collected and recycled, a substantial increase from the 1.62 tons collected in 2023.
